Here in Utah we get another day to set off fireworks in July! July 24th, Pioneer Day! It's a day for us to remember our pioneer ancestors and the lives they lived. Jake didn't have school or work so we wanted to spend the day with just our little family. Evelyn and I love when we get to spend whole days with Jake! We first started our day off with our own "Temple to Temple run"! The race started at the Provo Temple and then ended at the Provo tabernacle which is being turned into another temple. We slept in a little bit so we missed the start, but quickly ate breakfast, got dressed, grabbed our jogging stroller and out we went. Jake and I love running together. It's our time to talk about the now, the past and the future.
After the run we went home, got showered and headed off to the Provo Pioneer Day festival! I don't think I have ever been to the Pioneer Museum but it was really fun! Evelyn loved it! There were people everywhere!
They had all sorts of things going on! Most of which Evelyn was too small to really do but we walked around and just let her soak things up. She loves to just sit in her stroller and take things in. If she gets really excited about something she will venture out of her stroller and explore which she did plenty of that day.
They had so many different stations where they had things the kids could do. They had butter making, panning for gold, a washing center where the kids washed clothes with a wooden washboard, a country jail (which I thought was hilarious), and tons of others that I can't remember off the top of my head.
They had this very old firetruck that they would let the kids sit on with their own little fire hats and honk the horn. The line was horrendous so we just snuck to the side and took a quick picture. Evelyn was close to her nap time so we where trying to finish up quickly!
Evelyn loved the Indian village. She loved going into the tepees and was very interested in some of the Native Americans that were walking around. Some of them had a type of bell sewn onto their clothes so it would jingle when they would walk and Evelyn thought that was pretty cool. Around the corner they had a section where they would teach you how to square dance. Of course as soon as Evelyn heard the music she began to dance! That little girl loves to dance.
This lady was off in the corner of the Pioneer Museum just sewing away. They had all types of people dressed up doing things like the pioneers would back in the day. It made me very very grateful for the day and age I was born in, but it also made with wish for the simple life at the same time.
Happy Pioneer Day!
