Free/Discounted Admission Days in Utah

9:57 AM

My family is always trying to find free activities to do, and I love it when we find some good ones! Here is a list of places in Utah that are offering free days. Yes some are during the winter but it's a good excuse to get out of the house and go have some fun!

It's been forever since we have taken Evelyn to the Hogle Zoo so this is good to know! Obviously it's during the winter so please dress warmly! It doesn't say anything about it on their website but I called ahead to make sure! Free admission days are:

  • Wednesday, November 26, 2014
  • Wednesday, December 31, 2014
  • Wednesday, January 28, 2015
  • Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Next up is Tracy Avairy I have actually never been there myself but am so excited to go after looking into it. They are doing Winter Wednesdays where every Wednesday in November through March is $1! The great part is that $1 is going towards conservation projects for endangered bird species.

Utah Museum of Fine Arts is a great place to take your kids and learn about art and maybe even do a couple of crafts!

UMFA offers free admission all year round on the first Wednesday, and third Saturday of the month. There are also free crafts you can do on the third Saturday.

The Natural History Museum is next and boy does this place look amazing! This one is for sure on my list of places to go to. There is so much to see here so prepare to spend the day and be sure to bring your cameras! Free days in 2015 are:

  • Monday January 12
  • Monday April 13
  • Monday July 13
  • Monday October 12
You can make advance reservations for the free days which can be done online the Tuesday prior each scheduled free day. A limited number of tickets will be set aside for those who come on free days without a ticket. They still encourage you to come on the free days if you don't have an advance reservation but you may be asked to come back later in the day or be turned away if there are no tickets available.

Red Butte Garden is holding their Annual Holiday Open House on Saturday & Sunday, December 6 & 7 from 10AM-5PM. "The Orangerie will be filled with 19 local artists who have created an array of handmade gifts for sale including jewelry, pottery, fiber art, photography and more. We will also offer complimentary cider and hot chocolate, and winter wonderland of a garden to explore. So bring your shopping list, your winter boots, and enjoy the season with us at the Garden!"

Other places that are always free and have fun things to see are:

Gardner Village. We usually like to go there during the Fall season when they have all their witch displays out! It's a fun little place to walk around with your kids. During November 21-December 31 they have their Elf displays out! We have never been this time but it looks fun! Take your kids and go on an Elf hunt throughout the village!

Clark Planetarium. Admission is always free here and they have lots of exhibits to explore and interactive things to do with your kids! It's also right next to the gateway where they have a splash pad! Obviously it's too cold to run through it but they usually have the splash pad do a light show with some music. It's fun to watch!

Temple Square. It's getting close to the famous Christmas Lights! The lights officially go on November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. They also have several concerts that will be going on throughout the season. They do include tickets but they are free. Click here for more information
